Basic costume – try getting one with a hood
The origin of the name ‘grim reaper’, by most accounts is a result of the agricultural importance way back in history. The harvest signaled an end of the growing season and was a precursor to winter; and this harvest had to be done with a sickle. This whole process was metaphorical to ‘life’ and ‘death’ and thus got incorporated into the concept of death, personified.
The best thing about the grim reaper costume is that despite being so creepily elegant, it is very simple to make and can be designed at home by following a few simple steps. Also, the grim reaper being genderless, the costume can be used by males and females alike.
Any long, black robe can make your basic costume – try getting one with a hood, else add a hood yourself. A bedsheet, painted black, makes for the perfect input; with a few adjustments, you will have a hooded black robe, with even the dangling sleeves. As for footwear, you don’t need any, because the grim reaper is supposed to float along and not walk in steps. If you absolutely need footwear, go for a longer cloak so that it conceals your footwear. It is also necessary to get a skeleton mask that that is to be worn inside the cloak. But if you want no shopping, you can simply paint a skeleton onto your face. Of course, don’t forget your skeleton gloves. The next part of the costume is the sickle or the scythe. The scythe is easier to make, though both the sickle and scythe are easily available in any store as a part of the grim reaper accessories. The scythe can be made by taking a stick of the right size, and cutting the blade part out of cardboard and fixing it suitably. Since the whole setup must be painted black anyway, details don’t matter so much, as long as the basic shape is maintained.
Grim Reaper Halloween costumes contain a sickle which represents the harvesting done with a sickle. The Grim Reaper can be a guy or girl costume making it very allusive. The costume is a long black robe with a hood and a skeleton mask. There are many variations that are available for sale in costume shops. Or you can make your own using a black bed sheet or buying a satin black robe that has a hood, similar to a boxing robe. Make sure the cloak is long and covers your feet. Most costume shops have skeleton masks or you can paint your face if you are artistic. Skeleton gloves are essential, or again you can paint your hands black with white bones. To make a sickle or scythe, use a piece of cardboard to create the blade and affix it to a stick. You will need to paint it.

Oil Spill Costume – Be Controversial For Halloween 2010
When the Deepwater Horizon Oil Platform exploded in April 2010, no one ever thought it would be the worst oil spill catastrophe in our recorded history, and even though the well was declared killed in September 2010, the repercussions are still felt, and will be felt for many years. So, if you’d like to make a statement about the oil spill, or or you thrive on pulling people’s chains, you should consider the controversial oil spill costume this year.
There are two ways to go about getting an oil spill outfit: buy one commercially made, or make it yourself. If you want to spend the money on a costume instead of creating one, premade outfits are great. There’s a popular costume for sale now, called the BP Bad Planning Costume. It’s a set of green coveralls, covered in splatters of ‘oil’, with a Bad Planning logo mimicing the BP logo. Pair it with a hard hard or a plastic fish, either covered in ‘oil’, and all the costume work is done in a flash.
If you’re short on money, but have a little extra time, making this easy costume is a great affordable way to be able to dress up Just be prepared for whatever clothing you wear to be permanently altered. If you’re not willing to do that to your own clothes, hit up a second hand store. While you’re there, purchase a t shirt, or if you can find it, a set of coveralls. If you can get your hands on a inexpensive hard hat, and work gloves, even better.
The ‘oil’ if your oil spill costume is the biggest hurdle. Real oil is, well, oily, and you don’t want it all over your coveralls, soaking into your skin. Plus, imagine sitting down covered in oil, on your car. That is going to go over like a lead balloon. So, you need an oil alternative to paint on your costume. There are a couple options that you can use in place of actual oil: liquid latex, and paint.
If you’re allergic to latex, skip liquid latex and stick with paint. Liquid latex has the advantage of drying glossy, and being able to be applied to face and hair without side affects. Near Halloween it’s easy to get ahold of because many people like to use it fpr costumes. The rest of the year you might need to purchase it in an adult shop, online, or at a theatrical supply store. You can apply it to your clothes the same way you would the paint below, just don’t thin it out. You may not get the fine splatters, but you could try dipping a straw in it and blowing through it to see what happens.
Paint is a simple, accessible option for oil drips. Find a black paint that will dry glossy, thin it down a little bit, and using a paintbrush, squeeze bottle, or or the original bottle, apply to your clothing. Using a brush, or even a stick or straw dipped in paint, you can shake it over the clothing, getting the drips and splatters associated with liquids splashing all over. Some paint can be applied to the skin, although I would never advise putting it on your face or in your hair. Read the label of whatever paint you purchase thoroughly to make sure it’s safe for skin contact.
Whatever oil alternative you use, you should apply it days before you need the actual outfit so it has time to dry. If you don’t, you’l lbe leaving behind an oil slick of your own.

Why Are French Maid Costumes An Excellent Choice For Halloween?
Kids and adults find Halloween a big deal, with all the costumes, candy, and parties. And, sometimes finding the perfect costume for the holiday can be tough. There’s a million options: funny, sexy, or something else?
This Halloween, you should consider being a flirty French Maid. If you’re a man, this probably isn’t your first choice. Although, if you’re brave enough, you could pull it off.
But really ladies, I’m talking to you. Yes, you. Sitting there, thinking about what to be for Halloween. You should be a French Maid.
Why?
Well, there’s a bunch of reasons, but allow me to take a minute and talk about the three big ones.
First, There’s a bunch of flirty French Maid uniforms out there. There’s the basic short skirted black dress with white ruffles, ruffled headpiece, and feather duster. And then there’s some that look like a cross between a French Maid and an uptown bellboy’s uniform, with buttons, or those that are black and pink, or off the shoulder. And, when you pair it with old fashioned stockings, you can diversify the uniforms even more. Who says you need plain black and white, with plain black heels? Go with red lacy shortshorts to show when you bend over, or strappy black and white heels, or a pink feather duster. Go ahead, mix it up.
Another reason to choose this uniforms is because it’s alluring, for years there were cartoons in Playboy featuring this iconic character, and Jennifer Aniston dressed up as one in Friends with Money,. They’re a sexy twist on an old fashioned uniform, and a fetish for meny. With the lacy skirt, heels, and feather duster, you’ll get a lot of attention. And, if you’re usually reserved, this is a great choice for Halloween.
Why?
Because no one will expect you to do it. And, since it’s Halloween, there’s a certain amount of leeway you can take with a outfit, and then go back to being yourself the next day. For one night, pick that sexy outfit, and leave everyone wondering for a year what stunt you’ll pull next year.
The best reason for choosing a French Maid is how often do you see them at parties, or out trick or treating? Sure, you see references to them on the internet, or on tv, but how many people do you know that will actually dress up as one? We’re going to be seeing Bella and Edward for years, along with Ironman, and the usual ghosts. Just look at the popular movies this year; those are where most costumes will be.. But not French Maids.
Wearing a French Maid costume is like wearing a Spanish Dancer or Saloon Girl costume. Or dressing up as a Rydell High Cheerleader from Grease. They’re costumes you don’t see often, but you should see more of. This outfit is sexy, unusual, and you should wear it.

Make Sure Your Daughter’s Cheerleader Costume Is Great
With Barbie, Bratz, High School Musical, and many other shows and movies having cheerleader characters, it’s only natural that many girls want to wear a cheerleader Halloween costume at one time or another. And, since most girls aren’t at the age where they can pull the uniform together themselves, it’s up to you to help your daughter (or kid sister, or cousin) make sure her uniform is all it can be.
Don’t forget hair and makeup. Little girls love glitter, and to be honest, who doesn’t like a little sparkle now and then? Styling the hair and a little glitter can do wonders to compliment the costume. Ponytails and braids are common for cheerleader outfit, but if she has short hair, don’t despair. Slicking the hair in place with gel and a couple matching combs or shiny clips will work, or spiking short hair will get the desired affect. A little glitter hairspray in the hair can also make your child feel extra special.
A little glitter makeup wouldn’t be amiss either. This time of year glitter face paint is common and inexpensive, and you don’t need to have a lot of painting skill to face paint. If your child’s school has an animal mascot, a glittery paw or claw print might be all it takes on one cheek. Or pick a colour out of the outfit, and paint a star at the outside corner of her eyes. If your daughter wants a little more makeup, try some pale pink lip gloss with lots of sparkle. She’ll feel great without having to have her face covered in makeup.
Make sure you have the outfit early. Going to the store the day before, or day of Halloween, can be a recipe for disasterproblems. Even a few days before Halloween the selection is limited, with many uniforms missing pieces, ripped, or marked by dirt and other things from all the browsing of other buyers. If you wait too long, you may not be able to find a costume in the right size, or one with all the pieces. Avoid this by getting the costumecostume early.
You should have the cheerleader Halloween costume two weeks before Halloween, or no later than a week before. That way, if something breaks, you have time to fix it. Also, once you get the uniform, get your child to try it on and wear it for a while. It doesn’t have to be too long, but an hour will do. Watch her, and see if there’s problems. That way you can avoid any surprises, like realizing when she jumps her underpants show, or that the back of the uniform is ripping because the seam wasn’t sewn correctly. Children can be nasty, so spare her any torment by ordering early and fixing the problems before other children.
Ask yourself, are all the accessories in place? Cheerleading uniforms don’t require a lot of accessorizing, especially if you style your daughter’s hair and add a touch of glitter or lip gloss, but they do need a few accessories. It doesn’t make sense for a cheerleader to wear heels, sandals, or anything other then sneakers with a costume, so give her everyday pair a quick scrub with soap and water, and apply a little shoe polish if needed to get them ready to go.
And, if the outfit doesn’t come with pom poms, consider buying an simple set, or making them. While a lot of cheerleaders don’t have pom poms, or don’t have the huge, beach ball sized fluffy ones, some form of pom pom completes the outfit. You can use Google to search for websites on how to make pom poms. And, if you’ve left enough time for fitting and fixing the costume, you should have enough time to make up a set of pom poms too. Consider making them to compliment the colour of your child’s costume.

Alice In Wonderland – The Hot Costume Of 2010
Since Alice came out in March 2010, it’s no wonder that there a bunch of Alice In Wonderland themed outfit available in stores and online. And, with today’s trend towards sexy, it’s no wonder that there’s a variety of sexy Alice In Wonderland costumes available. If you’re thinking about being a character from this movie, check out the suggestions below and see if one suits your fancy!
Whether you want to bare a little skin, or a lot, the character of Alice has several versatile looks. You could choose the iconic blue dress from both the 2010 movie and the Disney animated movie, or you could choose one of the other outfits she wears, like the voluminous blue gown. Most Alice costumes are pale blue, so look for that colour dresses in an older style. Pair with white thigh highs and long blonde hair (your own or a wig) held back with a headband, and most people will be able to guess your costume. While finding the other outfits as a pre-made costume might be difficult, you could always try your local thrift shop.
The variations on Alice are pretty endless this year. Even though in the movie she’s not dressed sexily, the number of sexy Alice In Wonderland costumes available are staggering. They have costumes made of lace, and other materials, and with frilly skirts and lots of bodice detailing. Some come off the shoulder, and others come completely sleeveless. And, if you want people to take notice, one of these costumes will certainly do that.
Johnny Depp was fantastic as the Mad Hatter in the movie, but the costume can also work for women. And, since the Mad Hatter was male, why not stir things up with a woman’s version? The simplest route for this is to purchase a basic costume, and just be a woman wearing it. But, there are a number of costumes out there that have been made with women in mind. There are dresses, and different colors, instead of the rusty brown Johnny Depp wore. And, if you’re looking, do a more generic search for tea party costumes because they often bring in costumes that are Mad Hatter, but not titled that way.
If you do go with a basic outfit, spruce it up a bit! Tie a bright ribbon around the hat to change the colour of the hat band. Use large flashy costume jewelry as accents. You can check out your local thrift shop for good, affordable options. Use glitter in your makeup or body lotion to add shimmer. Or, use different shoes and stockings to add variety.
Keep in mind, that if Alice or the Mad Hatter aren’t your cup of tea for this Halloween, there are many other options available from Alice In Wonderland. The White Rabbit makes an especially revealing and sexy costume, and the Red Queen is an excellent costume if you want elaborate costuming for Halloween. Also consider pairing up with friends for group costumes, such as the Red Queen’s guards, or a demented tea party. With so many characters from the movie, it should be easy to find one you could dress as.

Finding a Great 1970′s Costume
With Halloween fast approaching, many people are scrambling for a costume. Selecting the right Halloween costume can be difficult; there are now more choices than every before and the simple act of going to one store and picking out a costume in fifteen minutes is a thing of the past. Lately, I have been thinking more and more about period costumes as a great choice to stand out this Halloween. Mostly, I am trying to find a great 1970′s costume.
There are several reasons I like period costuming for Halloween. First of all, it definitely rides that thin line between obscurity and originality. You can come up with something clever that people can still easily indentify and recognize without being obvious and lame. A 1970′s costume would be no exception; even if people do not remember who exactly you are, they will usually be impressed with the original thought and attention to period detail.
When I think of a 1970′s costume, I try to go beyond the obvious. It seems like every decade has one or two costumes that people immediately think of and the 1970′s are no exception. For the most part, the common 70′s costume is either a disco girl or a Superfly-esque pimp. These are all well and good, but they will not win you any points for new; they are costumes you see, maybe not everywhere, but once in a while.
A good period 1970′s costume, then goes a little deeper. The place I like to start is celebrities. Who was famous in the 70′s? And did they have such a distinctive look that you can pull of. Most people think of Elvis as a 50′s celebrity, but he made a huge comeback in the 1970′s with his Vegas-style costumes. Elvis is not the best example, but other celebrities had distinctive looks that can make a great 1970′s costume.
Even better, perhaps than dressing as a celebrity, since few of them "stand out" in terms of an unmistakeable signature style, is dressing up as a famous character from the 70′s. This is my favorite option for a great 1970′s costume if you can do it correctly. Personally, I think dressing up like Jack Nicholson’s character in Chinatown, complete with nose bandage would be a great choice.
However you approach your 1970′s costume, I think it will be a great success. People love period costumes and if you make one that is uniquely yours, all the better. Take a little time to think outside the box and you will be sure to have a great 1970′s costume!

The Best 1950′s Costume Ideas
Halloween is coming up again and if you are like me at all you know that searching for a Halloween costume is not at the top of your list. Searching for a Halloween costume can be a tedious and time-consuming task that costs money for only a few hours of fun, one night out of the year. But really, I wouldn’t mind the time and effort I put into finding a decent Halloween costume if only I could come up with a really great costume, something fun and original; sound like you? Well, here are some tips for a really unique approach to some excellent costumes: 1950′s costume ideas.
The reason I like thinking about 1950′s costume ideas so much is that it gives you a lot of options without a lot of other people dressing up as the same thing as someone else. Furthermore, a really good 1950′s costume will not cost you an arm and a leg. As you will soon see, the idea of a 1950′s costume as you buy at a store isn’t quite correct.
First of all, the 1950′s costume is not new. There have been 1950′s costumes out there for a long time; the saddle-shoe wearing poodle skirt costume or the soda jerk or the greaser. In fact, I have found that it is rare indeed to go to a costume party around Halloween and not to see someone dressed in one of these famous 1950′s costumes. However, I think that is precisely why I will be avoiding them.
Personally, I think a good place to start for 1950′s costume ideas is in celebrities from the 1950′s. In fact, this is a phenomenal place to start, particularly for the 1950′s because the 1950′s ushered in a whole new wave of celebrity focus and adoration in the United States. Some popular 1950′s icons include Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. I think that working from there leads you to a really good 1950′s costume.
Now, just having a celebrity is not necessarily enough. While dressing in period clothes helps some (and, perhaps enough), dressing up as a famous character that the celebrity you are interested in might be the difference between a good 1950′s costume and a great 1950′s costume.
Coming up with 1950′s costume ideas is not hard; it takes a little bit of effort and some time, but it can also save you money and, most importantly, have one of the best costumes at your Halloween function.
