Basic costume – try getting one with a hood
The origin of the name ‘grim reaper’, by most accounts is a result of the agricultural importance way back in history. The harvest signaled an end of the growing season and was a precursor to winter; and this harvest had to be done with a sickle. This whole process was metaphorical to ‘life’ and ‘death’ and thus got incorporated into the concept of death, personified.
The best thing about the grim reaper costume is that despite being so creepily elegant, it is very simple to make and can be designed at home by following a few simple steps. Also, the grim reaper being genderless, the costume can be used by males and females alike.
Any long, black robe can make your basic costume – try getting one with a hood, else add a hood yourself. A bedsheet, painted black, makes for the perfect input; with a few adjustments, you will have a hooded black robe, with even the dangling sleeves. As for footwear, you don’t need any, because the grim reaper is supposed to float along and not walk in steps. If you absolutely need footwear, go for a longer cloak so that it conceals your footwear. It is also necessary to get a skeleton mask that that is to be worn inside the cloak. But if you want no shopping, you can simply paint a skeleton onto your face. Of course, don’t forget your skeleton gloves. The next part of the costume is the sickle or the scythe. The scythe is easier to make, though both the sickle and scythe are easily available in any store as a part of the grim reaper accessories. The scythe can be made by taking a stick of the right size, and cutting the blade part out of cardboard and fixing it suitably. Since the whole setup must be painted black anyway, details don’t matter so much, as long as the basic shape is maintained.
Grim Reaper Halloween costumes contain a sickle which represents the harvesting done with a sickle. The Grim Reaper can be a guy or girl costume making it very allusive. The costume is a long black robe with a hood and a skeleton mask. There are many variations that are available for sale in costume shops. Or you can make your own using a black bed sheet or buying a satin black robe that has a hood, similar to a boxing robe. Make sure the cloak is long and covers your feet. Most costume shops have skeleton masks or you can paint your face if you are artistic. Skeleton gloves are essential, or again you can paint your hands black with white bones. To make a sickle or scythe, use a piece of cardboard to create the blade and affix it to a stick. You will need to paint it.

My Favorite Jigsaw Costumes
Last year American consumers spent over 5 billion dollars on Halloween. That’s 5 billion dollars worth of candy, decorations and Halloween costumes. All of that spending breaks down to an average of around sixty-six dollars per person. But you don’t have to break the bank in order to come up with a great adult Halloween costume idea this year.
However, because of their immense popularity, the Jigsaw movies lack a certain originality that I look for in some Halloween costumes. Here are some other ideas. I like thinking back to famous celebrities or movies at the particular period I’m looking at.
However, probably my favorite Jigsaw costumes are simply the plain clothes. This is especially great, because it allows you to create your own distinctive, movie-inspired look, rather than an expensive store-bought costume.
Regardless of your strategy, the best Jigsaw Halloween costumes are sure to be a favorite to whatever Halloween party you attend. Just try to think a little outside of the box, and you’ll come up with your own unique twist on the best Saw costumes.

Grim Reaper Costume for 2010
Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. Usually, I spend weeks and weeks preparing for it. I make the best Halloween costume I can, and I usually get some very positive reactions. Nevertheless, last year there was a change. I was just coming into town the day before Halloween from an extended business trip, and I knew I would have no time to put together a costume. I had to find something that I could assemble quickly but that was still impressive and in the spirit of the holiday. That is why I wore a Grim Reaper Halloween costume.
A Grim Reaper costume is actually a pretty easy thing to assemble. If you want to keep it very basic, you can get by with a cloak with a dark hood and some face paint. Ad a scythe and you’ve gone a bit further. For my Grim Reaper costume, however, I wanted to get a better effect. I wanted to look truly creepy. I decided to shave my head and paint my entire face white with black outlines around my eye sockets and my nose. I painted my hands in a similar style to give a skeleton look to my fingers. It was done in a subtle way – I have a friend who is a great make up artist – so that it wasn’t immediately apparent. At first glance, I looked a little pale and sickly. It was only at second glance when I appeared as if my bones were showing through.
Needless to say, my Grim Reaper costume was a big success. Grim Reaper costumes and other distinctly Halloween outfits usually are. Even if you don’t put that much effort into it, people love to see ghosts and goblins and ghouls of all kinds. I was lucky enough to be the only person in the party I was at with a Grim Reaper costume. I had been to Halloween parties before with three or four different people all dressed up as the Grim Reaper, and I was afraid that that was going to be the deal today. It is nice to be at least somewhat unique, even if your costume is not very original. And thanks to my friend, I had one of the best Grim Reaper costumes there were. Few people take time to get the makeup right, and doing so made me outshine most of the other Grim Reapers who were no doubt were out that night.

Grim Reaper Costume
There’s a special occasion that only comes around once each year. It’s a day when millions and millions of kids and adults alike get stoked about dressing up. Although it’s only for one day, everyone relishes the idea of slipping into a disguise or monster get-up of some sort. You’ve probably already guessed that I’m speaking of Halloween. This exciting holiday is not just about tricks and treats. It’s about escapism and frolicking in the dark streets. Now, the question is, what will you be for Halloween this year? Maybe it’s time to try out a grim reaper costume.
Some of us like to dress to scare on All Hallows Eve. Halloween is, after all, a day for spooks, chills, frights and fun. What better way to frighten people than with a dark and vicious grim reaper costume. We’re talking about "Death" himself here. If the reaper doesn’t get you a rise out of little trick-or-treators, I don’t know what costume will. Imagine the doorbell ringing. You glide soft toward the door. As you pull it open, the dark night drapes over your terrifying grim reaper costume. You stand tall and pale with your scythe in hand. At this point all the tiny trick-or-treators gasp in horror. Okay, granted it only lasts for a second, and then they just want their goodies. But, isn’t it great to get that legitimate fright out of them on Halloween night? It’s not just for your satisfaction, but it’s for them as well. Children look forward to a fright or two on Halloween. It’s what we all expected as children and it made the night fun.
For those seeking that stellar grim reaper costume, but have had no luck thus far, it’s time to see what the web has to offer. Forget about lame costume stores that pop up out of nowhere once each year to sell a vast array of cheap get-ups. While they sometimes carry a gem or two, you’re much more likely to discover a great grim reaper costume and many others online. Try websites like frightcatalog.com and halloweenonlinemagazine.com. Both offer a stunning selection of Halloween costumes and props galore. You’re sure to find an ideal grim reaper costume to scare all kids and adults alike on Halloween night.
