Cool Halloween Costumes
Really Cool Halloween Costumes – Mermaid Costumes.
With fall settling in, the next holiday on the horizon is Halloween. Halloween is actually the second biggest holiday in the United States of America in terms of how much money is spent on the holiday, and it is no surprise if you ask me. Between the party favors, decorations, trick or treat candies and, of course, the costumes, Halloween costs a pretty penny.
Here are some tips to help you find some really cool Halloween costumes without breaking your wallet. A Mermaid Halloween Costume is quite reasonable, and they will be gentle on your wallet.
The first and easiest tip to finding cool Halloween costumes is to think about the cool costumes from last year – odds are that the cool costumes last year are no longer cool at all. Case in point, dressing up as Amy Winehouse this year is a clear sign that you are not wearing a cool Halloween costume. Dres sup as a mythical mermaid instead, and that would be cool.
No, cool Halloween costumes are definitely not retreads from the year before. Truly cool Halloween costumes offer something new and unexpected, clever and fun, scary and… well, just cool. But how do you find cool Halloween costumes like that?
Well, there are a couple of tricks to finding really cool Halloween costumes. The first trick to finding cool costumes is to figure out what is and what is not cool. Keep an eye on trends in fashion and celebrities, who is wearing right, what retro movement is in. Having a sense of the times is crucial to finding cool Halloween costumes; what are people doing, liking, watching, listening to, and dressing up in, in their everyday life? This should be all the inspiration you need to find cool Halloween costumes.
So what is cool this year? For ladies, it is a sense of humor. Instead of dressing up as the "naughty" version of a costume, consider trying something that will get a laugh, rather than showing off some skin. And yes, some naughty costumes can be funny; a naughty cafeteria worker, for instance. As for men, funny always works as well, and, whatever you do, do not dress up as a pirate; unless it is a pirate-hybrid, like a robot pirate or zombie pirate, or as suggested earlier the siren of the deep blue sea, the mermaid.
Whatever your approach is to cool Halloween costumes, remember to bring your own unique sensibilities to it. There is nothing further from being cool than trying to be cool. Soak in the trends and signs of the times and apply it in your own unique way for a great Halloween costume.
Settle for a Glittering sexy mermaid, and that would be real cool.

A Guide to Child Halloween Costumes
My favorite holiday is upon us again: Halloween. I love several things about Halloween. it is a holiday centered around fun, candy, costumes and parties. That said, costumes might be my favorite part of the holiday. But costumes can be difficult to pick out, especially with how many there are out there to choose from. Nowhere is this worse than with, child Halloween costumes in particular. Here are some helpful things to remember when it comes to child Halloween costumes.
CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL CHILD HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AT BUYCOSTUMES.COM
There are a couple of things you need to consider when looking at child Halloween costumes,
from a practical standpoint first. First of all, remember that these are child Halloween costumes - and children are notoriously unable to handle discomfort for any stretch of time.
Obviously, an all-wool costume could cause too many frowns, but also consider the fit. If it is too baggy or tight (or, alternatively, if the mask doesn’t fit correctly), which is entirely common when it comes to child Halloween costumes, it will make for an unpleasant night for everyone.
Remember that children trick-or-treat, which is to say, that they will spend most of their time in their costume out-of-doors. In many areas, the end of October is a chilly month, and their costume should reflect the appropriate weather conditions. Finally, make sure that your child Halloween costumes have easy bathroom access… for obvious reasons.
Thanks to the Internet, it is now possible to browse child Halloween costumes without leaving your home. This makes it possible to have your children have a strong say in what costume they wear, without dragging them up and down the aisles at those costume megastores.
Definitely a plus, as trying to put a costume on a child that doesn’t want to wear it is a nightmare. My personal advice on child Halloween costumes is to make them as embarrassing as possible. What do I mean by that? Well, most people keep photo albums of all of their children’s Halloween costumes.
Hopefully, the pictures kept are of your children in child Halloween costumes that make them grimace whenever you take the album out at family reunions and functions, but maybe that is just my personal taste. In conclusion, with the Internet, it is easier to find great child Halloween costumes than ever before.
Just keep in mind a variety of practical concerns when shopping for your costumes, and you should find child Halloween costumes that make you and your children happy this Halloween.

Where to Buy Halloween Costumes
Halloween is just around the corner, and I am really excited. Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday- the combination of scary and spooky, candy and treats, and, of course, the costumes. However, most people see buying Halloween costumes as more of a chore, while I think it is one of my favorite purchases of the year. I love looking at costumes. However, if you are not like me, I can still help. Here are some of the best ways and places to buy Halloween costumes.
The key to buying Halloween costumes is to have a plan. Too many people go into stores without any sense of what they want to be. They spend their whole time looking at everything and have a difficult time choosing from the hundreds, if not thousands, of different options.Instead, take ten or fifteen minutes to think about what costume you wish you could buy. You still have the flexibility to choose something else when you go to the store.
Speaking of going to the store, that is not the only place to buy Halloween costumes. In fact, there are three main locations where you can buy Halloween costumes. The first is the worst place to buy Halloween costumes: any non-costume store. This includes your big box retailers as well as your chain convenience stores. The only reason people buy Halloween costumes from these places is that they forgot to do it. You can be better than that.
The next best place to buy Halloween costumes are the Halloween stores or costume stores. These are great for browsing, if you enjoy that sort of thing. Plus, you get a chance to look at two or three different variations on your costume in person. This is crucial for all you witches and pirates out there.
Finally, my favorite place to buy Halloween costumes is online. There are some disadvantages here; you have to have a specific game plan, browsing cannot be done.
However, you are able to quickly and easily compare prices and save yourself the trouble of going to the cluttered and crowded stores. However you decide to buy Halloween costumes, whether in a store, online, or as an after-thought, take some time to think it through before hand if you really want a costume you will enjoy.
Halloween only comes once a year, so the time is definitely worth it.

A Guide to Baby Halloween Costumes
Halloween is nearly here yet again and that means, among other things, time for Halloween costumes. Now, I love all manners of Halloween costumes, but my favorite costumes might have to be baby Halloween costumes. Why? Baby Halloween costumes might be the cutest thing in the world. While it is a pretty hard thing to mess up, here are some guidelines if you have a little one this holiday season.
The obvious baby Halloween costumes are pretty self-evident. Every baby looks cute dressed up as produce; apples, lettuce, pumpkins (an especially good and appropriate touch), and the ever popular pea in a pod. Not so cute? Broccoli or eggplant.
Another good choice for cute baby Halloween costumes are animals, obviously of the baby animal variety. Some popular ones here include lions, bears, rabbits, cats – basically anything little and furry. Animals to avoid include bats and moose; though strangely, scaly creatures like frogs and snakes make cute animal baby Halloween costumes.
Finally, another easy pick are cartoon characters. Whether from children’s shows (every baby looks good dressed up as Elmo or Cookie Monster or Winnie the Pooh) or children’s movies like Wall-E or Finding Nemo or Ariel The Mermaid Princess, animated characters are a great choice for cute baby Halloween costumes.
These options for baby Halloween costumes are great, because they add cuteness onto the existing cuteness of a baby. But you could add another layer to the baby Halloween costumes by avoiding the easy and cute options. I find it better, personally, to go the opposite route. A baby accountant Halloween costume, for instance, is still cute, but funny and original also. Same goes for a baby doctor. This works esepcially well because regardless of what you dress your baby up as, the cuteness usually overwhelms the costume anyhow.
The final thing that you should consider as well is that baby Halloween costumes represent a rare opportunity for parents: the chance to embarrass your children without seeming cruel. The more embarrassing the Halloween costume, the more embarrassing the Halloween photo album you get to share with your future son or daughter in law. Use this opportunity wisely, as in only a few short years, you won’t be able to dress up your kids in costumes without their input on the matter.
Finally, baby Halloween costumes should not be expensive. Shop around at a variety of costume shops online to compare prices and find the best deals. This is the best way to find great and affordable baby Halloween costumes without leaving the house

The Best Halloween Costumes For Any Age
Some costumes you find are best left for adults, as they can have a sexy theme to them. At times, you may find these in a smaller size, suggesting that teens or children can wear them, but you should firm when you say no. Instead, think of ideas for the best Halloween costumes for any age. This means that any one of any age can wear the costume without someone thinking it is inappropriate or sends the wrong message. You do not want your thirteen year old out there in a French maid outfit, but that does not mean she cannot go in something similar but that is more tasteful.
The common ideas can work for the best Halloween costumes. These would be a vampire, mummy, ghost, or perhaps a witch. These are fun, but not everyone wants to go with something that seems common. What you can do is to make each costume your own. You can take any type of common costume and make it into something that can be called the best Halloween costume going at the moment. You can do this for any age group. Don’t go with the vampire look of the moment – which has probably been inspired by a movie or show – but make up your own style for a really great looking costume.
You may not think that a common theme is the best way to go if you want to come up with the best Halloween costume ideas for an event. No matter what age, you can find some very neat items that are going to blow people away. What you have to do is to make the time to shop around with an open mind. If you have just one idea, you are going to have a hard time finding the items you want. If you have a few ideas or a vague idea, you can see what is out there and then choose the best of what you find for your best Halloween costume ideas.
Children often have the biggest imagination when it comes to coming up with the best Halloween costumes. However, they may also be at an age where they want to do what everyone else they know are going to do. That can be hard when you want them to wear something original. If they want to be the same movie character as everyone else, guide them in a different direction. Ask them if they would like to be a different character from the same movie. At times, this can work. Then you can go about making up a unique version of the costume that they want.
Remember that the best Halloween costumes do not have to be the sexiest ones. Some men and women go the sexy route hoping that will win them a prize as the best costume at a party or event. What matters more is how original and well thought out your costume might be. Some of the best ever made have been ones where you can not tell who is inside because so much of the body is covered. Remember that showing skin may get some attention, but that too has been done to death. Instead, rely on your wit and your sense of humor to come up with your ideas for the best costume ever.

Adult Halloween Costumes Ideas – The Zombie
Last year American consumers spent over 5 billion dollars on Halloween. That’s 5 billion dollars worth of candy, decorations and costumes. All of that spending breaks down to an average of around sixty-six dollars per person. But you don’t have to break the bank in order to come up with a great adult Halloween costume idea. A few things to keep in mind are where you’ll be wearing your costume. If you’re going to an outdoor event such as a parade consider the possible weather conditions. If you’re headed off to a Halloween party make sure you pick an outfit that you won’t mind wearing for a couple of hours.
You first stop for a fun adult Halloween costume idea should be your very own closet. Surely tucked away amid the sweaters, shoes and shirts are a couple of outfits that can best be described as “what was I thinking?” This could mean an extremely loud Hawaiian shirt that you add a cheep grass skirt to and go as the “wacked out tourist.” Or maybe you’ve got favorite disco outfit from the actual disco era that you can dust off and go as, well, as yourself from 1977!
If your closets don’t reveal any substantial adult Halloween costume ideas, head off to the store but not necessarily the costume store. You could spend fifteen dollars at the 99 Cent Store and buy fifteen items. Then merely attach these items to a shirt and jeans with safety pins and go to a Halloween party as the 99 Cent Store. You could also look up the closest outlet for medical supplies and pick up a pair of scrubs. Worn clean and you go as a “doctor.” Splashed with red food coloring and you go as a “doctor who had a very bad day.” There are also the army supply stores for the old stand-by of camouflage pants and shirts. You may also consider thrift stores to find some outrageous adult Halloween costume ideas. Those are perfect places for men who want to go in drag and need a cheap, big size dress.
If you’re feeling very creative another perfect adult Halloween costume idea would be to go as a zombie. You may think this requires a lot of work but actually all you need to do is get some theatrical make-up, cover your face with white base, darken circles under your eyes then grease up you hair. And no matter what outfit you wear, just add the word zombie such as zombie bride, zombie businessman, zombie jogger. You can’t go wrong with a zombie!

Adult halloween costume ideas
Adult halloween costume ideas can come in all shapes and sizes. You can go with the traditional halloween costumes – think ghosts, ghouls, witches and mummies or betwitching mermaids – or you can go with something new and unique. Or you could split the difference, going with something new but not unique at all. Think Michael Jackson or another recently deceased celebrity.
That’s one of the favorite tropes for adult halloween costume ideas these days: Going as someone who recently died. It’s got the right amount of creativity combined with plenty of "that’s sick!" to make it an eye-catcher. Michael Jackson is obviously a great one, as there are about ten different looks you could go with, all of them hilarious if pulled off right.
Think about it. You could be the most recent version of Michael Jackson, lily-white and missing his nose (obviously you shouldn’t cut off your own nose, but you can wear the mask like MJ did for the last few years of his life). You could go with late 1980s Michael Jackson, he of the leather jackets, skin-tight pants, jheri curl, and bulky metal accessories. If done right, you could even bring your own stuffed chimpanzee with you. You remember Bubbles, right? Jackson’s chimp companion from the late 80s/early 90s? That’s a costume everyone would recognize.
Then there’s the "Thriller" era Michael Jackson, he of the red leather jacket, the white socks, black shoes and midriff bearing t-shirt. Or the outfit from the "Billie Jean" video. In the realm of adult halloween costume ideas, these are two that are sure to be recognized by most people.
Of course you don’t have to go as a dead celebrity. Some people like to go as concepts, like "postmodernism" or "alcoholism." My girlfriend and I were thinking about how to come up with a good costume for the latter. I would go as a martini – my head would be the olive, and we’d figure out how to build a glass around that – and she would go as an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. We haven’t hashed out the idea fully, but it’s something we’re working on and will continue to do so as the season approaches.
These aren’t the only adult halloween costume ideas to consider, though. There’s plenty out there if you do some online research, ideas old and new to get your creative juices flowing. Plus there’s tons of "how-to" guides to give you what info you need to construct your costume on your own.
However for 2009 mermaids as the favorites in halloween costume ideas.

Finding a Great 1970′s Costume
With Halloween fast approaching, many people are scrambling for a costume. Selecting the right Halloween costume can be difficult; there are now more choices than every before and the simple act of going to one store and picking out a costume in fifteen minutes is a thing of the past. Lately, I have been thinking more and more about period costumes as a great choice to stand out this Halloween. Mostly, I am trying to find a great 1970′s costume.
There are several reasons I like period costuming for Halloween. First of all, it definitely rides that thin line between obscurity and originality. You can come up with something clever that people can still easily indentify and recognize without being obvious and lame. A 1970′s costume would be no exception; even if people do not remember who exactly you are, they will usually be impressed with the original thought and attention to period detail.
When I think of a 1970′s costume, I try to go beyond the obvious. It seems like every decade has one or two costumes that people immediately think of and the 1970′s are no exception. For the most part, the common 70′s costume is either a disco girl or a Superfly-esque pimp. These are all well and good, but they will not win you any points for new; they are costumes you see, maybe not everywhere, but once in a while.
A good period 1970′s costume, then goes a little deeper. The place I like to start is celebrities. Who was famous in the 70′s? And did they have such a distinctive look that you can pull of. Most people think of Elvis as a 50′s celebrity, but he made a huge comeback in the 1970′s with his Vegas-style costumes. Elvis is not the best example, but other celebrities had distinctive looks that can make a great 1970′s costume.
Even better, perhaps than dressing as a celebrity, since few of them "stand out" in terms of an unmistakeable signature style, is dressing up as a famous character from the 70′s. This is my favorite option for a great 1970′s costume if you can do it correctly. Personally, I think dressing up like Jack Nicholson’s character in Chinatown, complete with nose bandage would be a great choice.
However you approach your 1970′s costume, I think it will be a great success. People love period costumes and if you make one that is uniquely yours, all the better. Take a little time to think outside the box and you will be sure to have a great 1970′s costume!

The Best 1950′s Costume Ideas
Halloween is coming up again and if you are like me at all you know that searching for a Halloween costume is not at the top of your list. Searching for a Halloween costume can be a tedious and time-consuming task that costs money for only a few hours of fun, one night out of the year. But really, I wouldn’t mind the time and effort I put into finding a decent Halloween costume if only I could come up with a really great costume, something fun and original; sound like you? Well, here are some tips for a really unique approach to some excellent costumes: 1950′s costume ideas.
The reason I like thinking about 1950′s costume ideas so much is that it gives you a lot of options without a lot of other people dressing up as the same thing as someone else. Furthermore, a really good 1950′s costume will not cost you an arm and a leg. As you will soon see, the idea of a 1950′s costume as you buy at a store isn’t quite correct.
First of all, the 1950′s costume is not new. There have been 1950′s costumes out there for a long time; the saddle-shoe wearing poodle skirt costume or the soda jerk or the greaser. In fact, I have found that it is rare indeed to go to a costume party around Halloween and not to see someone dressed in one of these famous 1950′s costumes. However, I think that is precisely why I will be avoiding them.
Personally, I think a good place to start for 1950′s costume ideas is in celebrities from the 1950′s. In fact, this is a phenomenal place to start, particularly for the 1950′s because the 1950′s ushered in a whole new wave of celebrity focus and adoration in the United States. Some popular 1950′s icons include Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. I think that working from there leads you to a really good 1950′s costume.
Now, just having a celebrity is not necessarily enough. While dressing in period clothes helps some (and, perhaps enough), dressing up as a famous character that the celebrity you are interested in might be the difference between a good 1950′s costume and a great 1950′s costume.
Coming up with 1950′s costume ideas is not hard; it takes a little bit of effort and some time, but it can also save you money and, most importantly, have one of the best costumes at your Halloween function.

1970′s costumes for a 2009 Halloween
There are many directions to go when choosing 1970′s costumes to wear to a 2009 halloween party. The 1970s were themselves a time of social, cultural and sartorial upheaval, a time when people of subculture began to push more into the mainstream. As a result they began to bring their subcultural modes of not only thought and political activism to the fore, but also their manner of dressing. In a way, 1970′s costumes were a way for people of similar backgrounds, political ideas and desires to identify with others of the same notions. We identify each other, in other words, by the way we look and dress and act.
Some examples of this in terms of 1970′s costumes are swingers, disco dress, and "pimps" in the Superfly mold. Swingers of course, are defined thusly by wikipedia:
Swinging, sometimes referred to as the swinging lifestyle, is "non-monogamous sexual activity, treated much like any other social activity, that can be experienced as a couple."[1] The phenomenon of swinging (or at least its wider discussion and practice) may be seen as part of the sexual revolution of recent decades, which occurred after the upsurge in sexual activity made possible by the prevalence of safer sex practices during the same period. Swinging has been called wife swapping in the past, but this term has been criticized as androcentric (taking a male-oriented point of view) and inaccurately describing the full range of sexual activities in which swingers may take part.
Later, wikipedia goes on to state "In the United Kingdom there was a proliferation of neighborhood groups in the early 1970s — known as "wife swapping" groups — and press articles in later years suggest the peak was 1973–76."
So chosing a swinger outfit as the best of the 1970′s costumes makes some sense. Same with a disco outfit – just look at "Saturday Night Fever" for inspiration, since that is the definitive disco film and provides the best ideas for 1970′s costumes of that mold.
And as I mentioned before, Superfly is another great idea. For those not familiar, Superfly is the story of an inner-city drug dealer who turns against his mafia bosses and goes on a killing spree. Sure, you need a full-length fur coat to pull the costume off, but a creative halloween costumer can come up with that with a bit of effort. Add some gold rings, a cane, sunglasses and fancy hat, and you’re ready to rock with the best of 1970′s costumes.
